MEMÓRIAS SONORAS - XVIII - "SHIPBUILDING"

Durante a guerra que se travou entre a Inglaterra e a Argentina em 1982, durante o reinado Tatcheriano em Inglaterra, foram muitas as formas de oposição ao conflito e, entre elas, destacaram-se algumas canções. Uma delas, foi composta por Elvis Costello que escreveu a letra e por Clive Langer que a musicou. A composição com o título de “Shipbuilding” faz parte do álbum “Punch the Clock”, editado em 1983 por Elvis Costello. Mas a minha memória sonora centra-se na notável versão de Robert Wyatt, que antes de cantar a solo, pertenceu a um dos melhores agrupamentos musicais que emergiram nos finais da década de sessenta na UK: os Soft Machine. Foi durante o período que Robert integrou o grupo que teve um estúpido acidente que lhe paralisou as pernas e o obrigou a deslocar-se em cadeira de rodas. O 7” de Robert Wyatt com o “Shipbuilding” trazia uma magnífica reprodução parcial de um quadro de Stanley Spencer (1891-1959), “Shipbuilding On The Clyde”, pintado durante a Segunda Grande Guerra. Da letra da canção saliento, especialmente, os significativos 5 últimos versos que resumem todo o pensamento sobre o conflito armado que opôs Ingleses a Argentinos.
